Washington DANCER Sessions

Dance is something that has my heart and soul, (my soles too!). My work as a traveling guest dance educator has opened up a beautiful opportunity to combine my dance knowledge with my passion for capturing life.

On a recent trip to the Pacific Northwest to teach I had the opportunity to photograph four young dancers from Pacific Northwest Dance and Acro. I didn’t know the dancers personally, but I know their passion and drive for dance. DANCER sessions are designed to give them a beautiful reminder of all of their hard work.

I met Parker and Penelope on the first day at Deering Wildflower Acres in Marysville, WA. A gentle mist was present through most of the shoot, seeping through the tree canopies, creating the most peaceful atmosphere, until my loud “yes”, or “gorgeous” broke that calm. My camera was covered in a yellow plastic bag and a few strategically placed hair ties and the ground was a little soggy, but the girls were troopers and we captured some gorgeous shots of these 11 and 7 year old dancers all while being respectful to this beautiful nature preserve.

The next day Cailyn chose a shoot close to sunrise, which I love. We spent the morning battement-ing, jete-ing, and posing our way through downtown Arlington, WA. Well, she did. I do not kick my leg or leave the ground much anymore, but my posing was on point! The light was still pretty so we took a short drive to the bridge to enter Spencer Park and got a completely different look.

I finished up my last day of shoots with Ashlynn in Tacoma, WA. The plan was to shoot outside around downtown Tacoma. The Pacific Northwest weather had some different plans for us, thank goodness dancers are flexible, HA. We started outside the Museum of Glass with the beautiful architecture and sculptures, but it was just too rainy and cold. We walked into the museum’s gift shop to get warm. I walked up to the ticket counter and asked if we could finish the shoot in the museum if we bought tickets. To my surprise the lovey woman behind the counter didn’t blink and eye and said, “just don’t jump near the sculptures.” Tickets were purchased and off we went. There were definitely more than a handful of interesting looks from the museum goers, but Ashlynn looked like a piece of art that belonged there.

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” - Helen Keller I love when dancers are willing to adventure with me.

Leave me a comment and tell me your favorite places to travel to and then head to my contact page and send me an email. I will let you know where I am offering traveling shoots. I look forward to seeing you out in the wild somewhere.
