Virtual Photoshoots During Covid-19 | Los Angeles Photographer
Quarantine and social distancing because of Covid-19 have called for some out of the box solutions in so many areas of our lives. In our house we are having LEGO playdates over Facetime, E-wine with friends and birthday celebrations from our cars. Documenting the moments of peoples lives has adapted too. Welcome to the virtual photoshoot.
Lindsey and Phil were supposed to have their engagement shoot shortly after stay at home orders were issued here in Los Angeles. Instead of missing the moment of excitement about their engagement, we took the opportunity to capture this moment in a unique, creative, and thoughtful way with a virtual shoot.
Lindsey shared the session in a Facebook group where it garnered a lot of attention. It was featured on The Budget Savvy Bride website. What a great resource for all of your wedding planning needs.

How does it work?
We get on a Facetime call, (Zoom if you don’t have a iPhone).
I get a virtual tour of your space. I love this part. It is not something I usually get to do, unless we are doing an in home shoot. Seeing the place that somebody calls home lets me feel more connected to the story of who you are.
We decide on the best place with good lighting and figure out ways to prop up the phone. Leaning against a stack of books on a table is the most common way. I like to get interesting angels in my in person shoots, so it has been fun to find creative ways together to get those kinds of shots virtually too. In the image above we hooked the phone to the pedal of a bike that was mounted over the couch. I love the angle we were able to achieve. During one shoot the phone fell over and we all had a good laugh that I had fallen and couldn’t get myself up.
From there I prompt and encourage just like I do in person, I just do it from my office chair. My husband has gotten a whole new sense of the enthusiasm I give to my clients during a shoot.
Why would you consider a virtual photoshoot?
A photo is a visceral time capsule. These times are part of our life’s story and they deserve to be documented too. From newly engaged couples starting on their journey together and couples who have needed to change their wedding plans, to expectant and new mamas to dancers who are putting in the hard work in their living rooms to keep up with their craft, these are the moments of these times. They deserve to be captured.
One of the best things about a virtual shoot is there is no distance barrier. I was fortunate to capture moments for people not only in Los Angeles, but in Texas and Illinois too. How much fun is that?

I loved doing this sweet virtual newborn photoshoot. I raise my hands to all the mamas who have given birth during this global pandemic. Courtney didn’t want to miss out on capturing this moment with her new babe. I’m am so happy to be able to deliver this for her.
During the stay at home orders during the Covid-19 pandemic, dancers found a way to keep up with the discipline of their training. Dancers are a passionate bunch and the quick pivot of dance educators figuring out a way to nourish the needs of dancers through online learning is inspiring.
Kenzie is a young, hardworking dancer who was determined to keep up with her training. It was so much fun to connect with her and capture this moment.
Amanda and Chad found me through my Instagram Page. Like so many couples during this unprecedented time, they had to reschedule their engagement shoot a few times and did not have anything on the books to have to reschedule again. When Amanda reached out she said, “I was hoping that this could be a fun thing for the both of us to do while we wait! We also recently moved into a new dwelling place of our own and would love to capture this unorganized transition in our lives.” Her and Chris have such a sweet connection and I hope they will treasure these memories forever.
