Salton Sea Engagement Session | Lindsey & Phil

Lindsey & Phil are artistic and adventurous human beings. They met while dancing for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular a few years ago and have been true matched soles ever since. 

Engaged in Paris while Lindsey was performing in An American In Paris, and their initial date for their engagement session couldn’t happen because of Covid-19 (although we had a great time with a virtual session, see part of that session HERE ), we knew that their engagement session needed to be something spectacular. During our planning meeting we had a serendipitous moment when I suggested heading to the Glamis Sand Dunes for their session.. Phil had mentioned that to Lindsey that morning before we got on our call. After we did some happy dancing together, I mentioned always wanting to shoot at The Salton Sea too. I checked the map to see how far the Salton Sea was from Glamis and it felt doable so we said oui to the sea!

I first became aware of the Salton Sea when I was researching images for a dance piece I was choreographing a few years ago. The landscape Being a Los Angeles engagement and wedding photographer I jumped at the chance to create some images at a new-to-me beach location.

Bombay Beach and Slab City are probably the most well known areas of the 1950’s abandoned resort area.  Art installations have been made from the dilapidated structures along the beach and throughout the town and the beach itself is salty and vast. The whole place feels like a cross between a hip artist colony and a post-apocalyptic world. It’s truly one of a kind, just like Lindsey & Phil

I love using the elements around to create frames and unique perspectives. Lindsey took advantage of my client closet offerings for the first part of the session. She looks stunning in the rust colored Chan Luu ruffled boho crochet maxi dress. I love how the color of the dress pops in contrast to the more muted colors of the horizon.

After a quick wardrobe change in the car, because that’s how dancers do it, Lindsey & Phil danced their way around the beach, literally. Gosh I love when dancers get together… If this is what was happening during their engagement photos, I can’t wait to photograph the first dance at their wedding next year!

Before making our way out of town we made a stop at the Bombay Beach Drive-In. There are not many places I would feel comfortable having a couple stand on top of cars, but it feels appropriate here.
