Documenting the first weeks of a new earth-side babe is always precious, turning the page from one chapter of a family’s story to the next. The naturalness of a lifestyle session engraves the beauty of this time in the frame like your newborn imprints his or herself on your heart.
I love when worlds collide. I met Adjoa when she was a teenager and I was slightly older. At the time I was teaching on Tremaine Dance Convention. It was a few years later that she asked me to choreograph the music video for Recession Song off her album Songs For Tall Women & The Short Men Who Love Them. We collaborated on another music video, a performance at the Grammy Museum and a new original musical in the works.
In the meantime she met a lovely man, got married and brought sweet Baby Lion into the world. I had the pleasure of working with her again, this time on documenting this moment in their family experience. Lion had been earth-side for about 2 weeks when we did his newborn session. I love in-home lifestyle newborn shoots. This time is so special and life moves so slowly in the fastest way. Whether you live in the home for the next 25 days or 25 years, the place where you bring your new babe home to, especially your first babe, inscribes itself on your memories.
The afternoon I spent in Santa Monica in Adjoa and Aaron’s cozy home was a beautiful one filled with love, stories and sweet baby sounds. I can’t wait to capture the next milestone.
