Lindsey & Phil had an epic 2-part engagement session. For part two of Lindsay & Phil’s engagement session we headed to the Glamis Sand Dunes for that beautiful glow of a sunset golden hour session. See part one of their engagement session at the Salton Sea HERE.

Arriving at the dunes is quite spectacular. The parking lot sits where the vastness of the sand before you can be adequately appreciated.  It is stunning.

If you are considering an engagement session at the dunes, be prepared to be blown away… literally. The wind is about as magnificent as the view, or at least it was the day that we were there. I opened up my car door to get out and it was promptly blown shut.

We made it out to a great spot, and after we watched my lens cap roll down one of the dunes like Ryan Gosling fighting his way though the dust storm in Blade Runner, we started creating.

The wind was fierce, like Lindsey & Phil’s love, (too cheesy?). But really, it was intense. Lindsay also has very sensitive eyes, so it was an interesting combination of factors. I made sure to always keep her facing away from the wind and Phil was amazing facing the wind to guide her where she needed to be. Lindsay said this on an Instagram post about how cared for she felt by Phil during this part of the session. I totally agree with her.

I love the texture that the sand creates in the images and the dunes are so expansive that they really lend themselves to a romantic engagement session.

But of course with these two, the was laughter and a bit of dancing.

A quick wardrobe change added a different laid back feel to the images. I also pulled out my Cooper pipe to add some different flare (literally) to the photos. I love to have fun modifiers in my bag like a copper pipe, a prism, and sometimes even my phone to create interesting effects. This is also a reason I offer a complimentary engagement session with my full day package, so when I start putting things in front of my camera on your wedding day, you don’t think I have completely lost it.

In my client closet I have a beautiful vintage wedding dress that I knew would look stunning on Lindsay, so I asked if she would put in on for a few shots. Wow, I’m so glad she did. Her grace, the train on the dress, the wind and the beautiful golden light made this Los Angeles Photographer’s heart so happy.

The Glamis Sand Dunes and The Salton Sea in one day to and from Los Angeles was adventure, probably slightly ambitious, but a whole lot of fun. I am so glad that Lindsay and Phil chose these spots for their engagement session. I can not wait to photograph their wedding next year!
